On 18th June 2024, the ISO/TC 314 Ageing Societies Committee and the IEC System Committee Active Assisted Living came together to hold an international workshop on the Utilization of Technologies for Ageing Societies in London. This important and critically timed international gathering places the spotlight on key considerations of the impact and utilization of technologies in various aspects within ageing societies.

On November 14th, the Communications Task Group of TC 314 on Ageing Societies, will hold its next meeting to plan and coordinate activities to raise awareness about standardization for ageing societies. This day is also recognized as World Diabetes Day. This date was chosen since it marked Sir Frederick Banting’s birthday. Dr. Banting, a Canadian, discovered insulin in 1921 which provided a lifesaving treatment for diabetes. This day also provides an opportunity to look at the serious economic and social implications that diabetes presents for ageing societies.

As the uncertainty around the future of the global COVID-19 pandemic continues, support for carers remains critical. ISO/TC 314 has been actively involved in addressing this issue with the publication of ISO 25551 – General requirements and guidelines for carer-inclusive organizations. Other global and national organizations are working to raise awareness and create dialogue on this important global issue.

ISO 25551 - General requirements and guidelines for carer-inclusive organizations has recently been published. This is the first document to be published by ISO Technical Committee 314. Coming soon will be two more new standards – one on age-inclusive workplaces and one on dementia friendly communities.

ISO/TC 314 started work on an international standard to help organizations address the needs of working carers in 2019. After developing a working draft and resolving comments on the committee draft in virtual meetings, Working Group 3 is pleased to announce that the document is now available for wide review and comment as a Draft International Standard (DIS) from November 19, 2020 to February 10, 2021.

The Programme for Workers’ Activities (ACTRAV) of the International Training Centre of the ILO, in partnership with the ETUC (European Trade Union Confederation) created a training for young trade union leaders and experts across Europe called European Youth Academy on the Future of Work.

Standards are present everywhere in our daily life and they impact a wide range as aspects and domains. ETUC (European Trade Union Confederation) in collaboration with ASRO (the Romanian Standardization Body) and the Romanian confederations created a joint seminar focusing on the importance of having standards.

During the meeting of WG1- Ageing workforce, which was held between the 24th and 26th of June 2019, in Berlin, the experts discussed different opinions regarding ageing workforce in order to further refine the draft structure of the standard. Discover the updates from the WG.

As part of the TC’s regular meetings in June, a three days WG 2 meeting was held in which the members settled on the draft structure and critical contents of the new standard. As part of the meeting, expert opinions on specific topics addressed by the standard were presented. Site visits to organizations that take care of and produce solutions for older persons living with dementia were conducted.
