Raising awareness about standards, ISO TC 314- Ageing societies a current topic

Standards are present everywhere in our daily life and they impact a wide range as aspects and domains.  ETUC (European Trade Union Confederation) in collaboration with ASRO (the Romanian Standardization Body) and the Romanian confederations created a joint seminar focusing on the importance of having standards.

Standards are present everywhere in our daily life and they impact a wide range as aspects and domains, such as occupational health and safety, competences and training, human resources processes etc.. At the same time, trade unions also focus on these areas in their activity, the reason for which the  ETUC (European Trade Union Confederation) in collaboration with ASRO (the Romanian Standardization Body) and the Romanian confederations created a joint seminar focusing on the importance of having standards. Among the participants, there were representatives from the European Commission, from CEN-CENELEC Management Centre and Romanian ministry dealing with standardization.

Besides underlining the important place that standards have at our workplaces, Guido De Jongh, ETUC advisor on standardization, presented examples of European and international standards with trade union involvement.

One of the subjects presented was the work done at international level by ISO TC 314-Ageing societies, with a focal point on the standard developed by WG 1- Ageing workforce.

The participants, trade unionists from different branches, domains and working at local, sectoral or national level express their concerns regarding the current trends that affect the labour market and which creates sometimes imbalances.

The ideas promoted and included in the work done by the TC 314 WG1 were encouraged by all the participants and the standard under development presented interest for the representatives from different organizations.
