Approval Stage - Final Draft International Standard (FDIS)

The FDIS stage is only needed if a technical change is made when you address the DIS ballot (Enquiry stage) comments. Once this is done you can finalize the document for submission. After the DIS ballot the correct word file that was published by the ISO Central Secretariat in ISO Projects needs to be used. This will be the only word file that will be accepted upon submission. The word file is watermarked by ISO Central Secretariat. To submit the FDIS for ballot you send the word document to the ISO/TC 211 secretariat. When using OSD the document and comments are already online so you only need to notify the ISO/TC 211 Secretariate that you are ready for the submission.  You do need to send in all the separate graphic files of all the figures used in the document to ISO/TC 211 secretariat unless they are unchanged from the DIS, in this case you only need to let the ISO/TC 211 secretariate know that the figures are unchanged.

FDIS ballot

A FDIS ballot period is 8 weeks long, the FDIS ballot may generate comments on the document you have submitted from the entire ISO membership. Important is that on a FDIS ballot members are only allowed to make editorial comments. If there are more concerns this should be directed to the secretariat or the PMG convenor. It is only the P-members that cast a vote on whether the document can proceed to publication.
