Standard representation of latitude, longitude and altitude for geographic point locations |
Scope |
This document specifies the representation of latitude and longitude applicable to data interchange and human-readable representation and maintains strict backwards compatibility with previous editions of ISO 6709. This document also supports the representations of other coordinate types, including representations of height or depth, and time that may be associated with those coordinates as defined through one or more coordinate reference systems (CRS) to remove ambiguity. This document is not applicable to the representation of information held within computer memories during processing and in their use in registers of geodetic codes and parameters. Additionally, files of point locations, and well-known identifier usages (simple identifiers, metadata or geometric objects, and data sets with embedded CRS identifiers) are out of scope. |
