GAKUSHUIN UNIVERSITY Professor Hirooki HOSAKA, a delegate of the SC11 National Committee in Japan, along with the Japanese Industrial Committee (JISC), has been working diligently to translate and adapt international ISO documents for the benefit of Japan. In 2019, the Japanese members of SC11 successfully revised and translated ISO 15489-1:2016 into JIS X 0902-1 as an equivalent standard. This accomplishment inspired the members to pursue further ISO documents.
To continue their efforts, the SC11 members decided to focus on translating the Management System for Records (MSR) standards. The JISC, responsible for the examination and review of national standards (JIS), has recognized the draft Japanese standards of ISO 30300 and ISO 30301. These standards were subsequently published as JIS X 30300 and JIS X 30301 on May 22, 2023. The 'X' in the JIS category denotes the classification of Information. Throughout the translation and review process, the SC11 members collaborated closely with the Japanese Standards Association (JSA), an Accredited Standards Development Organization in Japan. Assisting in this process, the Information Science and Technology Association of Japan (INFOSTA) served as the secretariat.
Looking ahead, the same SC11 members are now working on translating ISO 30302:2022 Guidelines for implementation into JIS. Given the typical two-year review period by the JISC, it is expected that the publication of this translation will take place in 2025. The ongoing dedication and cooperation of these organizations highlight Japan's commitment to aligning its national standards with international best practices in the field of information science and technology.
