This is a new initiative being investigated by ISO/TC 46/SC 11 Working Group 7- Digital records preservation
Records managers have long focused on records other than those stored as data in databases and line-of-business systems. The advent of 'big-data' and an increasing focus on privacy issues are some of the drivers for addressing the issue of data as records.
The Working Group (jointly with ISO/TC/171- Document management applications) is writing a discussion paper on recordkeeping as it relates to data. This includes discussions of the challenges of recordkeeping on the internet, electronic systems transactions and other data generated in the course of business.
