Germany: New publication on ISO 15489

“Records Management nach ISO 15489. Einführung und Anleitung” is the title of a 2018 publication of the German Working Group (Arbeitskreis) on Records Management (NA 009-00-15-02 AK) at DIN - German Institute for Standardization.

Subsequent to the publication of ISO 15489 in 2016, the DIN Working Group decided not to translate this standard into German, but to draft and publish a short guide and interpretation for German readers together with the attached standard in English.

The publication covers various aspects of the standard such as the regulatory environment (i.e. other related German and international standards), the legislative context of different professional branches from public service and especially to private business areas with strong regulatory requirements. Relevant national and international rules are both covered, including the EU General Data Protection Regulation. Finally, it explains the key aspects of the standard and “translates” certain terms for German readers and for non-experts. The authors aimed at readability to promote records management beyond the information management community and to give guidance to e.g. managers, IT experts or lawyers.

The volume has been published by Beuth Verlag (Berlin) and costs 38 Euro in Germany.
