The following parts of ISO 9455 have been revised and published in August 2017:
- part 11, Solubility of flux residues
- part 13, Determination of flux spattering
- part 14, Assessment of tackiness of flux residues
- part 15, Copper corrosion test.
Note that a revision of part 3, Determination of acid value, potentiometric and visual titration methods is under preparation.

The special needs of the aerospace industry regarding visual weld inspection are not fully covered in the existing documents which are available. Some established companies may have their own requirements written down in internal documents.
The purpose is to set an International standard which will be accepted all over the aerospace industry and to give companies who are interested to work in the field aerospace a guideline document.

Following the systematic review, it has been decided to revise the 2010 version in order to update the terminology and review the flowachart procedure for the classification of internal indications in welds.
