The “CU” Digital Twin Project: European Citiverses Uniting for Inclusiveness (Eric Jeansson, City of Gothenburg)

Supported by the EU, the project will develop an AI-supported platform built on Gothenburg's digital twin. Its aim is to meet needs of all residents and visitors, regardless of age or ability, creating a more equal and accessible urban environment for everyone. The project is led by the City of Gothenburg and brings together a cross-sectoral team of private businesses, civil society organisations, and universities from across Europe.

The Automotive Community: Standards or No Standards? (Trond Hovland, Norwegian Public Roads Administration)

There is a contradiction between authorities, who requires standards and regulations for the transition to automated transport, and car manufacturers who prefer proprietary data sets and the freedom of development without formal standardisation. This is frustrating for standardisation communities and regulators, making it challenging to share data between actors. The absence of standards also hinders the creation of a safer and more efficient transportation system.

This presentation highlights several projects to illustrate a possible way forward.

Swedish Road Authorities Technical development plan for the road system (Thomas Asp, Swedish Transport Administration)

If the road system is to function well in the future, it must meet society's needs for reliable, cost-effective and environmentally friendly travel and transport. This must be done with a high level of safety, punctuality and accessibility. To achieve this, continuous development of existing and new roads is required. Focus will be on the Geodetic surveying area.

Session 3 – Digital Twins

 

Interoperability and common standards for the development of digital twins (Jenny Carlstedt, Research Institute of Sweden (RISE))

The need for a network that creates consensus around the development of digital twins has become clear in the transition to digital planning and building processes. To achieve an uninterrupted digital information flow, issues around interoperability and common standards need to be resolved. This is one of the keys to scalable digital twins, which enable us to move seamlessly from building, to district, to municipality - to our country's digital twin.

Standardization for IoT, Local Digital Twins, Metaverse and CitiVerse (Torbjörn Lahrin, Independent standardization expert - of Us)

We get insights in how these subject areas are related, what building blocks will be needed and why standards for these areas are so important. Skill supply in the geodata industry (Sofi Almqvist, Geoforum Sweden)

Skills supply is a major challenge for the geodata industry in Sweden. Geodata competence is critical both for digitalization and for transition to a sustainable society. This presentation describes a project with a long-term goal to increase admissions to educations and that more people with relevant skills apply for vacancies in the industry.

Motivating the young generation to learn more about standards (Lars Harrie, University of Lund. Gabriel Hirsch, Sweco)

Geospatial standards need to be set into a larger context in order to increase the motivation for young persons to learn more about them. This is exemplified by presenting how standards are described in the Swedish GIS-book, how they are integrated in teaching, and how standardization has been implemented into hackaton events.

Implementation of Geospatial Standards in India - A Strategy (Sh Hitesh Kumar Makwana, Surveyor General of India)

The presentation outlines the strategic approach to implement geospatial standards in India for strengthening the geospatial ecosystem. It highlights the country’s efforts for creation and maintenance of accurate, open data aligned to the national/global geodetic standards and development of open-standards based geo-platform to share data amongst various data providers and consumers on the FAIR principles- through a common data registry and unified geospatial interface.

Sweden has a new national strategic plan for the geodata area. Lantmäteriet works in accordance with this plan towards standardization in the geodata area to achieve an uninterrupted digital community building process and a more efficient and secure information ecosystem within the geodata area.

Utilization of Geospatial Standards for National Data Ecosystem : Indian Experience and Way Forward (Dr Debapriya Dutta, Chairperson, National Mirror Committee of India (LITD 22))

Summary
India holds a significant global position in the digital data ecosystem, ranking as the third most digitalised country overall. India’s Digital Public Infrastructure has demonstrated that when digital systems are built on open and interoperable standards, inclusion and innovation naturally follow.
Now, Geo-Digital Public Infrastructure geospatial technology is becoming the next frontier of this transformation It is here, India is embedding ISOTC 211 principles into its Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) and AI-ready data ecosystems, building a trusted, interoperable Geo-Data Commons for governance, economy, and innovation.
