Tales of collaboration

In 2004, we established formal cooperation with ISO/TC 204 Intelligent transport; in 2017 this matured into a Joint Working Group with the first formal joint work item. The group is now concentrating on revising ISO 20524 Intelligent transport systems – Geographic data files to bring their approach to geographic information nearer to the ISO/TC 211 one.

We also established a Cooperative Agreement with UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO). We have worked closely together on ISO 19144 Classification systems and hope that the old agreement will be formalised between FAO and ISO itself in time for publication of the new edition of ISO 19144-2 Land cover meta language and the new Part 3 Land use meta language, which have both been lead by FAO and based on their work harmonising data between countries for reporting changes in land cover and land use as part of monitoring the impact of climate change.

We also published four standards, with ISO 19125-2 Simple feature access — Part 2: SQL option being so successful over the years that it made sense to merge it in to the general SQL standard, ISO/IEC 13249-3:2016 Information technology - Database languages - SQL multimedia and application packages - Part 3: Spatial – geospatial as mainstream data management!
