Ordnance Survey: Developing national and international Standards for location data. 

Ordnance Survey (OS) is Great Britain’s National Mapping Service. Through the Public Sector Geospatial Agreement (PSGA), we create, maintain and provide access to consistent, definitive and authoritative location data of Great Britain as part of our public task. Our expertise helps organisations to maximise the use, value, and benefit of the data for the national interest and the public good.

Our trusted location data and expertise is helping to build a modern digital Britain. We manage a nationally critical database of over half a billion features – from detailed roads and buildings to footpaths and cycleways. Our experts help the UK maintain its position as a geospatially advanced nation by providing leadership in location data standards and services. As part of the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT), we’re supporting its mission to deliver improved public services and grow the economy. 

Ordnance Survey (OS) works closely with central government to develop and promote standards by actively advising cross government forums. Standards provide a common approach to documenting geospatial data and improving data quality; making it possible to integrate different datasets that contribute towards highly effective decision-making and problem-solving for citizens and public services.
