Support for geospatial activities in Europe

ISO/TC 211 are pleased that our standards are supporting different activities in Europe. 

European INSPIRE initiative 

This international spatial data infrastructure (SDI) is built on ISO/TC 211 and OGC standards. In particular: 

• The INSPIRE Registry is managed in accordance with ISO 19135 Procedures for item registration 
• The INSPIRE theme data specifications were developed using ISO 19103:2005 Conceptual schema language and ISO 19109:2006 Rules for application schema 
• The INSPIRE Technical Guidance for Metadata uses ISO 19115:2003 Metadata and ISO/TS 19139:2006 Metadata – XML schema implementation 
• The INSPIRE Technical Guidance for View Services uses ISO 19128:2005 Web map server interface (OGC) 
• The INSPIRE Technical Guidance for Download Services uses ISO 19142:2010 Web Feature Service (OGC) and ISO 19143:2010 Filter encoding (OGC)

The INSPIRE community is actively working to update these to the relevant newer standards such as ISO 19168-1 Geospatial API for Features 

European Union Data Spaces

We have collaborated with the European Commission and OGC to produce a report on using existing standards to make geospatial data available within “data spaces”: Input to EU Data Spaces
