Participation in ISO/TC 211 work
Below are answers to some frequently asked questions concerning how to participate in ISO/TC 211 work, i.e. membership and registration for groups and meetings.

To become a member in the TC (the group ISO/TC 211 as defined by the ISO/Global Directory) you need to
- be appointed by your National Standards/Member Body (NSB/MB)
- be registered by MB in the ISO Global Directory (ISO/GD), except for liaisons which the secretariat handles
This gives you access to documents sent out to the TC (not the WGs or AGs).
This gives you the access to register for the plenary meeting. Formal decisions of the TC are made at the plenary meeting or by electronic vote. Your member body may have stricter rules on participation in the actual plenary meeting. This can result in that different countries have different rules for who they allow in this group.
Please address any issues concerning your membership to the TC group to your NSB/MB
To become a member in a group (WG, AG, AHG etc) you need to
- be appointed through a Call for members ballot
- ask your MB to appoint you
- be registered by MB in the ISO Global Directory (ISO/GD)
This gives you access to documents and meetings, puts you on e-mail sending lists, and make it easier for the group convenor in his or her communication with the group. Note: for closed groups the MB request is forward via ISO/CS to the Committee Manager(CM). Dependent on the Terms of Reference of the group the CM may need to ask the convenor before adding you to the group.
To attend a meeting you need to
- be registered for the TC or group (see above)
- register for the meeting at the ISO Meeting portal https://sd.iso.org/meetings/my
This ensures that you have access to the meeting, and to documents etc.
If you do not find your meeting or if the meeting you wish to attend does not display the Register button the reason is most often that you are not registered in the correct group. Consult with your MB to registered in the correct group before you try again.
