Editing Committee (EC) and Editing Committee Meetings
An Editing Committee (EC) is established for each work item(project). The EC shall conform to the provisions for ECs specified in 1.11 of the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 1, with the following additions:
The additional purpose of an EC is:
- To discuss and respond to comments according to the ISO/IEC Directives; and
- To process the comments objectively and systematically such that each comment within scope is given due weight and responded to explicitly.
- To ensure that the document conforms to the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 2, and to ISO/TC211 good practice resource, available on the ISO/TC 211 website.
According to Resolution 89, ISO/TC 211 standards and reports are published internationally in English only, unless a French version is available in due course.Consequently, technical experts with knowledge of French are generally not required on an EC.
All nominated project experts are automatically appointed as members of the EC. If a member body has submitted comments on a ballot, they may nominate an expert to the EC. If other working groups and advisory groups have an interest in comments made during the balloting process, the convenor of such a group may attend the EC. Additional experts are welcome to join EC meetings.
All maintenance group convenors are automatically members of the EC. This ensures that they are included in correspondence and have the opportunity to guide the development of terminology, UML, etc. in the document.
EC meetings shall be chaired by the convenor of the relevant WG, or by another member of the WG nominated by the convenor. EC meetings shall not be chaired by the project leader or editor.
EC meetings shall follow the provisions specified for working group and other meetings specified in clause 4 of the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 1.
At all stages of the project, the EC shall follow the provisions for reaching consensus specified in 2.5 of the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 1.
One of the EC members shall be designated as editor (normally the project leader of the relevant work item or the editor, if designated at the proposal stage). The editor shall take responsibility for addressing the issues in the comment log and for editing the document in accordance with the agreed resolution of comments.
The editor shall submit the comment log and revised document to the ISO/TC 211 Secretariat. The WG convenor shall be copied in this correspondence.
