Industrial Data covers a broad range of industry topic areas and touches every aspect of modern life.  From manufacturing process in industry to every segment of society data is used in some fashion to innovate, create, construct, deliver, support, and retire products and services.  This industrial data relies on standards for flawless interoperability between aspects of the product as it traverses its lifecycle.  ISO/TC 184/SC 4 is organized into several Working Groups to manage the standards that make up Industrial Data.  With over 700 standards in publication, there are far to many to describe here.  Rather, this site provides a broad overview of the standards with detailed projects noted in the tabbed topic areas.

Working Group 3

Oil, Gas, Process and Power

Convenor: Paulus W.H.M. van Exel

Website: http://15926.org/

Description: This working group is responsible for the development and maintenance and implementation guidance of the ISO 15926 series that services the process industry supply chain and its providers. This supply is formed by owner operators, contractors and equipment suppliers from oil, gas, chemical and utilities sectors. The supply chain is served by software solution providers, consultancies and universities.

WG 3 liaises with ISO-IEC committees, sub committees and workgroups and with industry groups working on relevant information models and reference data.

Working Group 8

Joint ISO/TC 184/SC 4 - ISO/TC 184/SC 5 WG: Manufacturing process and management information

Convenor: Prof. Anne-Francoise Cutting-Decelle

Description: This working group is responsible for the development of standards in the representation, exchange, and information sharing domain related to manufacturing management processes. This includes interactions within and between industrial plants, as well as information needed to specify manufacturing processes. Standards in scope of this Working Group are:

  • ISO 15531 MANDATE (MANufacturing DATa Exchange)
  • ISO 18629 PSL (Process Specification Language)
  • ISO 18828 Standardized procedures for production systems engineering
  • ISO 20534 Formal semantic models for the configuration of global production networks

Note: This working group is currently on stand-by due to lack of new projects.

Working Group 11

Implementation methods and conformance methods

Convenor: David Loffredo

Description: This working group is responsible for the development and maintenance of EXPRESS information modeling language, implementation methods for using EXPRESS models in various technologies (ASCII, C, C++, Java, XML), and conformance testing methods.

Working Group 12

SMRL Validation Team

Convenor: Keith Hunten

Website: http://www.ap242.org/

Description: This working group is responsible for the development and maintenance of a series of standards (Integrated Generic Resources and Integrated Application Resources) that combine to specify an integrated information model that serves as a basis for the implementable standards of 10303  STEP known as Application Protocols (APs).  The APs may be monolithic in construction, or comprised of a set of Application Modules (AMs) that are shared between APs to enforce integration of basic concepts.  The Integrated Resources and Application Modules are managed in the STEP Module and Resource Library (SMRL) in Working Group 21.

Some of the most used APs include:

 - Multidisciplinary analysis and design (10303-209);

 - Electronic assembly interconnect and packaging design (10303-210);

 - Systems engineering (10303-233);

 - Engineering properties and materials information (10303-235);

 - P{oduct life cycle support (10303-239)

 - Model based integrated manufacturing (10303-238);

 - Managed model based 3D engineering (10303-242).

Working Group 13

Industrial Data Quality

Convenor: Dr. Timothy M. King

Description: This working group is responsible for the development of standards that contribute to the assurance and improvement of data quality. The standards specify processes, data models, the characteristics of data and related guidance that enable organizations to ensure data meets requirements and becomes a reliable foundation for the right people making the right decisions at the right time. Standards in scope of this Working Group are:

  • ISO 8000 (Data Quality)
  • ISO 22745 (Open Technical Dictionaries and their Application to Master Data)
  • ISO 29002 (Exchange of Characteristic Data)

Working Group 15

Digital manufacturing

Convenor: Dr. Martin Hardwick

Website: http://ap238.org/

Description: This working group is responsible for the development and maintenance of the digital manufacturing framework. Standards in scope of this Working Group are:

  • 10303-238 (STEP-NC) (jointly with WG12)
  • ISO 23247 (Digital Twin Manufacturing Framework)
  • Digital Manufacturing Implementor's Forum

Working Group 21

SMRL Validation Team

Convenor: Keith Hunten

Description: This working group is responsible for the maintenance of the constituent WG12 standards in the STEP Module and Resource Library (SMRL).

Working Group 22

Reference data validation team

Convenor: Nils Sandsmark

Working Group 23

Vocabulary Validation Team

Convenor: Dr. Timothy M. King

Description: This working group is responsible for the evaluation, validation and maintenance of vocabulary of standards developed by ISO/TC 184/SC 4. These activities prepare the content of standards such as ISO 8000-2 (Data Quality -- Part 2: Vocabulary). The working group ensures each vocabulary is a coherent and comprehensive collection of terms and definitions for the applicable scope. Each collection supports developers to present a systematic view of the technical requirements covered by the target standard and users to implement the standard consistently to deliver all the expected benefits of each implementation.

Joint Working Group 16

Joint ISO/TC 184/SC 4 - ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 24 - ISO/TC 171/SC 2 WG: Formats for visualization and other derived forms of product data

Convenor: Soonhung Han

Joint Working Group 24

Joint ISO/TC 184/SC 4 - IEC SC3D WG: Use of IEC CDD for ISO data dictionaries and ontologies

Convenor: Hiroshi Murayama

Description: This working group was created as a joint working group between ISO TC184/SC4 and IEC SC 3D to embody the use of IEC CDD(Common Data Dictionary), a cross domain industrial ontology repository, for ISO data dictionaries and ontologies, through database-based standardization process. It also addresses the maintenance of ISO 13584 series of standards and some related standards.

The primary targets to be stored are those data dictionaries based on ISO 13584-IEC 61360 data model, however, the CDD is designed to accommodate more a broader scope of ontologies and different data models.
