Commission V "NDT and quality assurance of welded products" worked on 2 new proposals related to Full Matrix Capture (FMC) and Total Focusing Method (TFM) technology:

- Non-destructive testing - Ultrasonic testing - General use of FMC/TFM technique, which is a general project, and

- Non-destructive testing of welds -- Ultrasonic testing -- Use of (semi-) automated FMC/TFM technology, specific to welds.

Brazing: specification and qualification of welding procedures for metallic materials - A new project approved (ISO/NP 17779)

The purpose of this document is to provide general set of rules for qualification independent of product or application.

All new brazing procedure tests are to be carried out in accordance with this document from the date of its issue. However, this document does not invalidate previous brazing procedure tests made to former national standards or specifications or previous issues of this document.

Where additional tests have to be carried out to make the qualification technically equivalent, it is only necessary to do the additional tests on a test piece which should be made in accordance with this document.

ISO/AWI 17927, Welding for aerospace applications - Fusion welding of metallic components : a new series approved !

ISO/TC 44/SC 14 "Welding and brazing in aerospace" has just approved a new series : ISO/AWI 17927, Welding for aerospace applications - Fusion welding of metallic components, Part 1: Process specification and Part 2: Acceptance criteria.

Since fusion welding is a widely used joining procedure within the aerospace industry, ISO/TC 44/SC 14 proposed the creation of an international standard for fusion welding in aerospace which is mainly based AWS D 17.1 and DIN 29595.

Although established internal company specifications are established, ISO/TC 44/SC 14 agreed that the development of an International Standard specifically designed for fusion welding of metallic components would give the wider aerospace industry the opportunity to utilise the guidelines identified within this proposed standard and thus, establish a minimum level of prerequisite for fusion welding of metallic components used in the manufacture of aerospace components.

The series should be published in 2021.

ISO/NP TR 22281, Welding consumables - IIW position statement on the use of trace element analyses in welding consumable specifications: a new document !

This document is based upon round robin tests for chemical analysis conducted within the International Institute of Welding (IIW). It considers interlaboratory reproducibility of measurement of trace element concentrations in steel and weld metals, and offers guidance in respect to application of accept/reject criteria in welding filler metal procurement as might be applied using, for example, ISO 14344 or API RP 934-A.

ISO/FDIS 9017, Destructive tests on welds in metallic materials - Fracture test: minor revision approved !

This International standard, previously published in 2001, specifies the sizes of test specimen and the procedures for carrying out fracture tests in order to obtain information about types, sizes and distribution of internal imperfections such as porosities, cracks, lack of fusion, lack of penetration and solid inclusions on the fracture surface.
This International Standard applies to metallic materials in all forms of product with joints made by any fusion welding process with a thickness greater or equal to 2 mm.

Following the systematic review carried ou in 2016, a minor revision of the document was proposed in order to update normative references.

ISO/NP 22073, Gas welding equipment - Pressure regulators and pressure regulators with flow-metering devices for gas distribution pipelines up to 60 bar (6 MPa): a new document !

As ISO 2503,  Gas welding equipment - Pressure regulators and pressure regulators with flow-metering devices for gas cylinders used in welding, cutting and allied processes up to 300 bar (30 MPa), does not cover the pressure regulators used on gas pipelines and distribution systems, with a lower inlet pressure than the cylinder regulators, this standard has been proposed.
The industry needs such a standard to refer to for them. These regulators are by now only covered in other standard systems like AS or CGA.
