ISO Technical Committee 184 Sub-Committee 4 (#isotc184sc4) is the home of #industrialdata standards. Standards play a vital role in the connectivity of the digital thread in industries from Gas and Oil, to Aerospace and beyond. But who is who in this development ecosystem? How did they get involved? Stay tuned, TC 184 SC 4’s Social Media team is hosting a #Get2KnowSC4 campaign. We have been publishing a series of articles showcasing members of our SC who stepped up to share their standards story.

In this latest article we welcome you to meet the convener of SC 4’s Quality Committee Véronique Dubillot.

• Day Job: I am managing methods and tools for my very small company, Boost Conseil 

 

Work Questions:

How did you get pulled into the world of standards and ISO?

With the ISO 10303-242 edition 2 team. I coordinated the hybrid publication which included the STEP Extended Architecture.

Why do standards and standards development matter to you?

Standards help us to work smartly, efficiently, and reinforce our competitiveness. Being involved in the development of THE standards that will be chosen at an international level by your industry is essential.

What is your Working Group (WG) responsible for? What do they do?

The Quality Committee is not really a working group, but is an SC 4 committee, we do not have the same concerns as a traditional working group. The Quality Committee (QC) instead is tasked to provide SC4 projects with stable document that enumerates the specifications, quality assessment criteria, and approval processes that they should use to achieve consistent high quality standards. This also involves providing training on those specifications, as well as workshops to assess quality needs of the SC.  

How is your ISO position different then you thought it would be first coming in? How is it the same?

I started the convenor position for the Quality Committee a year ago, and it is not different from what I thought, as I previously was secretariat for the same committee. As such I was already promoting quality knowledge inside the SC 4 and updating the Quality material for SC 4.

What are you proudest to have accomplished with ISO so far?

I am trying to create dynamic activities around quality, a way that makes quality go easy and smoothly. Quality is a serious matter, but it does not have to be boring.

What are the failures that you most cherish?

Is it possible to cherish failures? I don't, even if they make me growing up.

Personal:

How are you surviving the pandemic?

Taking care of my children and trying to figure out what my future will be.

Dogs or Cats? Neither?

Dogs. I recently have a new puppy J.

What keeps you motivated?

Helping others to be autonomous and to do the right thing.

What’s more important to be smart or work hard (can’t be both!)?

I am working on being smarter.

What are you most curious about to come next (in life or work)?

In drafting standards: new tools. Tools can automate things like layout and formatting and allow developers to focus on the essential tasks of writing. These tools making drafting standard go smoothly and efficient. 

 not having to care about the layout and the formatting, refocusing on the reader, coming back to essential tasks of writing, making drafting standard smoothly and efficient.
