Message from the Chairman

Welcome to our second newsletter of the year and an early welcome to our 82nd Plenary meeting to be held virtually in November. As has become our custom during these challenging times, we will be executing our plenary meeting using the best practices of virtual meetings with a focused agenda that will prioritize on our most pressing issues. I am looking forward to the reports from each of the Working Groups, Ad Hoc Groups, and Task Forces with enthusiasm. SC 4 has been quite active since the 81st Plenary with the work program and I am sure that the 82nd Plenary will be no different. 

 

Since our last meeting, our membership has changed and I would like to extend a warm welcome to Australia and India! Based on the last update from ISO, we are 20 members strong and demonstrating excellent participation from experts across all of our Working Groups. Further, our work we recently noted in ISO's Smart Manufacturing Coordination Committee with the publication of a white paper on the enhancers and enablers of Smart Manufacturing and the role of standards. In addition, we published the series on Digital Twin manufacturing framework with the publication of ISO 23247 in four parts, added to the ISO 8000 series with additional functionality, and several other updates. 

And, finally, I would like to recognize the many experts and NSB's that made winning the L.D. Eicher award this year a delight. Announced at the 2021 General Assembly, SC 4 was recognized for its outstanding contribution to standards development and for the many innovative ways our SC contributes to the development of standards. While Dana and I may have been the one on video at the General Assembly, it was each of you that made this possible and for that I want to say thank you!

Message from the Committee Manager

I look forward to meeting with you all during the upcoming virtual plenary in November. As in our previous virtual meetings, I am sure this will be a very productive event for all WGs holding sessions prior to that week. As always, please let me know if you have any items requiring my attention before, during, or after the meeting. 

 

First, I would like to also mention what an honor it is for our Committee to be recognized as this year's winner of the L.D. Eicher Award. Thank you for all of the hard work by everyone involved in this accomplishment. 

 

Also, from ISO there has been a change in the Editorial Program Manager role since our last meeting. Ms. Claudia Lueje has joined our Committee replacing Mr. Bastien Gavoille. We thank Bastien for all of his hard work and contributions to SC 4 and welcome Claudia to the Committee. As many of you have already seen, Claudia is ensuring that we meet all of our time-lines for standards releases.
