Our Mission

Standardization in the field of quality management and quality assurance, both from a generic standpoint and for specific sectors (such as but definitely not exclusive to automotive, aerospace, nuclear energy, local government, and healthcare). Some of the sectors we serve are included in our publications, while others are supported by our publications.

Why?

Quality management systems are a fundamental element of any business seeking to build trust with customers and other interested parties. Trust is built by demonstrating the ability to consistently provide products and services that meet customer requirements and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.

The benefits of quality management systems include enhanced customer satisfaction, control of operations and sustainable performance.

Who uses our standards?

Organizations ready to build a relationship of trust with their customers by applying quality management and quality assurance approach are the primary users of TC 176 standards.

To demonstrate the effective implementation of their quality management system, organizations may choose to pursue certification. Certification bodies and the national quality infrastructure actors that oversee them constitute the second category of users of TC 176 standards.

Some industry sectors have adapted the generic TC 176 standards to their specific needs. They represent the third category of users of TC 176 standards.

Who are we?

ISO/TC 176 is the technical committee responsible for the development and management of international quality management systems (QMS) standards and supporting publications. You may be familiar with ISO 9001. That is our primary standard, but there are many more publications in our portfolio.

Our committee members represent approximately 100 countries as well as ~30 liaisons with other ISO SCs and 30 liaisons external to ISO.

To better manage the broad scope of our work, ISO/TC 176 is comprised of three (3) subcommittees and ten (10) working groups.

Many of us are volunteers who are committed not only to developing standards, but also to using them to help strengthen the effectiveness, efficiency, and sustainability of the organizations we've joined the committee to represent.
