Internet of Things (IoT)
Sumit Jha (BIS; India) provided a great presentation around the Internet of things (IoT) and the impact to service management. This presentation provided a quick background of IoT and how it is now impacting daily lives, directly or indirectly, in a known or unknown fashion. The impacts of IoT to service management is vast and varied – several ITIL®4 practices were discussed (e.g., Strategy management, service level management, information security management, change control, etc.) with specific emphasis on Service configuration management and IT asset management (how do we code/type the IoT configuration items?). The impact to the SMS was discussed as a possible horizontal application to the ISO groups dealing with IoT. There are certainly discussions to be had as we look to the potential revision of ISO/IEC 20000-1:2018 and its upcoming systematic review.
The next 20-20-20 presentation is 3 November 1000 UTC (subject to change based on the Interim meeting schedule), and the brainstorming topic will be the EFQM and the SMS, presented by Kulpreet Nanda (BIS, India).
