By A. Davis on

Next meeting: week of February 26, 2018 (in conjunction with ISO/TC 44/SC 10 Quality management in the field of welding )

Venue: AWS, Miami

The main items to be discussed are the proposed revision of ISO 9606-1:2012, Qualification testing of welders - Fusion welding - Part 1: Steels, which is a key standard for the welding industry. This standard is published as EN ISO 9606-1 and is adopted for work under PED in the EU and thus any revisions could have an impact. A number of official interpretations on ISO 9606-1 have been published. These are available to help end users better understand ISO 9606-1 as well as to provide feedback to ISO/TC 44/SC 11 for revisions and updates to the standard.

During the meeting, will also be discussed updates to the draft revision of ISO 14731, Welding coordination - Tasks and responsibilities, another key standard in the welding industry related to welding personnel.

ISO/TC 44/SC 11/WG 2 "Revision of ISO 14731" will consider the latest ballot and comments at their January 19th, 2018 meeting at Institut de Soudure in Paris before reporting back to ISO/TC 44/SC 11.

ISO/TC 44/SC 11 will discuss the change in scope to include brazing procedure and brazer qualification. A new WG is expected to be created for this task and anyone interested in participating should contact their national standards body (see https://www.iso.org/members.html).
