During the meeting, 12 countries were representing against 9 in 2017 (today, 30 countries are members of ISO/TC 44). Efforts have to be continued to improve the participation of countries.
During the week, several meetings were scheduled in conjunction with the TC:
- ISO/TC 44/SC 11/WG 2 "Revision of ISO 14731";
- ISO/TC 44/SC 5 "Testing and inspection of welds";
- ISO/TC 44/SC 7 "Representation and terms" and WG 2 "Nomenclature of processes and reference numbers";
- ISO/TC 44/AHG 1 "Review of SC scopes"; and
- ISO/TC 44/JAG "IIW – ISO/TC 44 – CEN/TC 121 Coordination Committee".
During ISO/TC 44 meeting, the following items were discussed:
- Improvement of interpretation procedure to ensure that request for interpretation at discussed at a national level, at first;
- Promotion of ISO website and improvement of ISO website presentation (especially for interpretation sheets);
- Presentation of 2 new projects prepared by IIW dealing with non-destructive testing;
- Reinforcement of the involvement of destructive testing experts as about 20 destructive testing standards are published within ISO/TC 44/SC 5;
- Welding fumes: the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), recently classed welding fumes in group 1 "carcinogenic to humans". As authorities are generally based on IARC reports, manufacturers may have to comply with new requirements. This might lead to the creation of new standards or revision of existing ones to take into account measurement, sampling or haracterization of welding fumes
- Creation of a new sub-committee on underwater welding.
