With less than 1% of its land area under arable cultivation and over 90% reliance on food imports, the UAE has a Global Food Security Index score of 75.2%. In facing this challenge, the UAE recognized that harnessing the power of agrifood data would be critical to its future food security and delivering on the national vision to:

Ms.Al-Shamsi will present on the resulting UAE Food Security Data Platform at the 5th global plenary meeting of ISO/TC 347, in Cologne on Tuesday 10th March 2026 at 09:15 CET.

Decision-makers now have access to a single, nationally integrated system providing real-time visibility through 335+ indicators spread across the entire food system. The platform’s success is built on a foundation of
• Aligning national strategy across agri-data, agri-AI, and future foresighting
• Delivering robust governance through data policies and standards, and data stewardship frameworks
• Leveraging technology to deliver high data quality, secure integration, and data exchange infrastructure
The platform is already delivering multiple AI-powered analytics tools, an anticipatory approach to food and animal feed diversification, a national livestock identification system, and marker indices across sustainability and biosecurity.
About the value of ISO/TC 347
The practical implementation being delivered by the UAE is a blueprint for how the work of ISO/TC 347 will support the future of global agrifood systems. The platform demonstrates the critical value of several aspects of the committee’s work, including
• Data semantics – standardization codes and classifications
• Sustainability metrics – 7+ years of retrospective data
• Data governance – A foundational approach to “share once”, use multiple times
Ms Al-Shamsi’s presentation will be an opportunity to explore the opportunities for further partnership between the parties to develop and demonstrate agrifood data standardization through specific work alignment between the committee and the UAE data platform.
