Many standards focus on developing processes and procedures to produce outcomes such as increased operational performance, cost savings, or reduced waste. In contrast, the new ISO 41015 focuses more on how to adjust outputs that influence users within the facility to produce these positive outcomes.
In short, it is about influencing people’s behaviors within a facility to create a positive response for a demand organization, the environment, or other stakeholder.
Ted Weidner, as Working Group 5 Convenor said, the new ISO 41015 will “help facility managers deliver FM services by creating synergies between the facility and its stakeholders. This could be the first step to implementing ISO 41001 or it could help an organization with continuous improvement goals. ISO 41015 should provide flexible but essential guidance to demonstrating the value of the FM organization in support of the demand organization's strategic objectives.”
The new standard is intended for owners, operators, and service providers at a facility. It will help readers identify ways facility improvements can cause desired behaviors to improve both the outcomes and the contribution the facility makes within the built environment.
Currently in development, ISO 41015 will be a valuable addition to the suite of #ISO41000 standards. It promises to allow FM organizations see beyond processes to the people for which the facility was conceived.
