FM Leadership goes virtual

Of course, much of the remarkable year-round collaboration involved in the production of these standards was already conducted virtually across a range of working groups and various communication platforms.  However, until now ISO/TC 267 members could anticipate face-to-face plenary meetings twice a year, at which all members are eligible to participate. In conjunction with such international gatherings, focused workshops and other meetings to progress the standards are also held.

The 4 June 2020 meeting will be our first virtual plenary meeting.   

ISO/TC 267 is the international committee responsible for the ISO 41000 series of FM standards.  Formed in 2012 under the chairmanship of Stan Mitchell, the ISO/TC 267 now comprises 48 countries. 

Membership is via National Standards Bodies (NSB) and the British Standards Institution (BSI) provides our Secretariat.  

ISO/TC 267 currently organizes itself across six (6) active groups.  These include Advisory Groups (AG), Working Groups (WG) and special purpose Task Groups (TG) progressing a range of ISO/TC 267 approved initiatives.  

ISO/TC 267 has four (4) standards published and three (3) standards under development.

The full ISO/TC 267 committee has held eleven plenary meetings since its inception, and our next meeting had been planned for June 2020 in Spain.  

However, in the wake of the COVID-19 global pandemic, it has been the direction of Sergio Mujica, the ISO Secretary-General, that all ISO meetings are to be held virtually or postponed until advised otherwise.  

Rather than cancel or postpone, ISO/TC 267 has opted to hold its first virtual plenary meeting on 4 June 2020.  Such is the importance of the work of FM and the recognition that the adoption of ISO 41000 series better prepares organizations for the uncertainties of our challenging times.   

The upcoming ISO/TC 267 virtual plenary meeting will provide the opportunity to: 

• Share experiences across the FM world and confirm our membership’s commitment.
• Review the status of our active groups (AG1, AG2, WG4, WG5, WG6 and the SDGTG), take questions and discuss decisions related to each group.
• Receive our global liaison reports on our relationship with other ISO standards.
• Consider new work item proposals, of which there are three (3) being tabled at the plenary meeting in June.
• Consider resolutions.
• Agree future meetings.

The ISO 41000 series of standards provides a common FM language and framework for FM worldwide.  ISO/TC 267 expend considerable effort on the use of common FM and business terms and reach international consensus on their use, definitions and the practice of FM.
