In January 2021, our ISO/TC 267 technical committee, responsible for developing the ISO 41000 series of Facility Management (FM) standards, will welcome Duncan Waddell as our new Chairman.
Stan Mitchell, who has served as our Chairman since 2011, will handover to Duncan.
Stan said “I have known Duncan for many years and I have no doubt that he will lead the Technical Committee in a professional manner and with an enthusiasm that will motivate those representatives of the 48 member countries who give of their time and experience to creating international standards for the benefit of all.
Duncan’s FM knowledge and experience internationally as a strategic and professional discipline bodes well as does his leadership qualities critical to the continued growth and output of ISO/TC 267.”
Duncan has worked within the FM sector for 34 years, brings considerable experience to the role including Past Chairman of the Facility Management Association of Australia and current Chairman of the Global Facilities Management Association. In addition, Duncan is managing director of FM Intelligence Pty Ltd based in Melbourne Australia, an FM consultancy operating worldwide.
In accepting the role, Duncan said “During the time I have been engaged in the work of TC 267, I have been very impressed with the enthusiasm and passion of all TC 267 members and contributors. This has directed the development and delivery of FM standards that have already had a major impact on the practice of FM and will continue to do so as more standards are developed to empower FM professionals worldwide”.
Duncan added “I know my TC 267 colleagues would share in my sincere thanks to Stan Mitchell for his leadership over the past nine years. Stan has set the benchmark as to how to create consensus and develop standards that support and guide the evolution of FM in meeting the constantly changing management challenges faced by the Built Environment”.
ISO/TC 267 is indebted to Stan Mitchell for his steadfast leadership during his tenure as Chairman of our technical committee. The success of the ISO 41000 series standards is directly due to his ability to guide a group of experienced professionals through the challenging process of the global consensus required to publish such standards.
Clearly there has never been a more important time for the FM profession and a greater need for FM standards. Not only is there the continuing FM role contributing to quality of life issues, but also managing the implications of the COVID-19 global pandemic and leading the return to work in a sustainable and safe manner and assist in the recovery of the economies around the world.
We look to a bright future under the leadership of Duncan Waddell.
