What is ISO 45010?

ISO 45010 provides guidance for developing workplace policies and practices that support workers’ menstrual and menopausal health and experiences. It helps organizations identify practical adjustments, supportive mechanisms and inclusive approaches that can reduce stigma and address barriers at work.

The guidance can be adapted by organizations of any size or sector, including workplaces with physically or psychologically demanding environments. It supports areas such as workplace design, recruitment, policy development, management practices and worker well-being.

Why is ISO 45010 important?

Menstruation and menopause can affect workers’ experience of work, particularly when symptoms coincide with inflexible working conditions, unsuitable facilities or a lack of understanding and support. An unsupportive environment can contribute to presenteeism, absence, disengagement, reduced working hours and workers leaving their organization.

By addressing these experiences as a workplace matter, organizations can create a more inclusive and culturally safe environment. Appropriate support can strengthen worker engagement and job satisfaction while helping organizations retain a diverse workforce and manage the costs associated with turnover, recruitment and training.
