Standards for the digital age

After days of demonstrations, questions and ideas shared between participants, the Digital Hub closed with a milestone: the soft launch of ISO’s digitally enhanced content. ISO Secretary-General Sergio Mujica and IEC Secretary-General Philippe Metzger reflected on the work their organizations have done together to reach this point. Members can now help test the experience and shape what comes next – a fitting end to a week that made digital change something people could see and explore.

ISO comes together

There was a special sense of occasion as ISO members from around the world came together for the 2026 General Assembly – the moment when the whole organization pauses, takes stock and looks to what comes next. Opening the session, ISO President Dr Khaled Soufi celebrated a remarkable week in Paris and invited members to carry its energy, ideas and spirit of collaboration forward. His message captured the mood perfectly: trust is not a given, but something built through cooperation and shared endeavour. With that, the General Assembly was underway, bringing the ISO community together to make the decisions that will shape its next chapter.

My challenge for you is to carry this spirit of collaboration forward into all your future endeavours. Let’s continue to work together, building trust and improving lives through standards.

A win for road vehicles

A warm round of applause greeted the members of ISO/TC 22, Road vehicles, as the committee received this year’s Lawrence D. Eicher Leadership Award. ISO President Dr Khaled Soufi presented the honour to outgoing Chair Fabien Duboc, new Chair Philippe Schultz and Committee Manager Valérie Maupin, who accepted it on behalf of the experts behind the work.

There was plenty to celebrate. In a field that never stands still, ISO/TC 22 has kept evolving, changing how its experts work together, embracing digital tools and developing standards that support the shift towards cleaner transport. A proud moment for everyone who has helped steer the committee forward, and a well-earned chance to enjoy the applause.

ISO/TC 22 is at the forefront of the transformation of road vehicles across every dimension of mobility.

From breakfast to the big stage

Remember the young professionals making connections over breakfast? At the General Assembly, their voices reached the whole ISO community. A short video put the week’s big question to them: how are they already helping to build trust in a changing world? Then four young women joined ISO’s leadership on stage to take the conversation further. It was a chance to hear from people already working in standardization, and to give their ideas a place in the discussions about where ISO goes next.

Paris makes a statement

The week’s theme – building trust in a changing world – found a clear expression at the General Assembly with the signing of the Paris Statement. It reaffirms ISO’s commitment to climate adaptation, resilient ecosystems and the protection of nature, and sets out how International Standards can help turn that commitment into practical action. Its message reaches far beyond Paris: trusted standards bring scientific knowledge and people’s expertise together, giving communities, businesses and policymakers a shared way to respond to change. The statement closed the week with a call to keep that collaboration going – and put it to work.

Paris, France, le 1 octobre 2026 – L’Organisation internationale de normalisation (ISO) a adopté aujourd’hui la Déclaration de Paris, réaffirmant ainsi le rôle des Normes internationales dans les efforts …

With the Paris Statement signed, ISO Secretary-General Sergio Mujica, AFNOR CEO Olivier Peyrat and ISO President Dr Khaled Soufi celebrate a shared commitment to sustainable development.

A week built on trust

Paris has given us a week to remember. In packed rooms and lively exchanges, people from across the world wrestled with the challenges reshaping our lives – and with the part International Standards can play in meeting them. The week’s theme, building trust in a changing world, grew more tangible with every insight shared and every connection made.

Thank you to AFNOR for welcoming the ISO community in its centenary year, and to everyone who made the conversations count. We leave Paris with ideas to pursue, partnerships to strengthen and work to carry forward. Next stop: Istanbul, Türkiye, for the ISO Annual Meeting 2027. See you there!

Until we meet again, relive the energy and highlights of an unforgettable week.
