This is the stage where all ISO members and committee see the document, and at least some members open the draft for public comment.
The Draft International Standard (DIS) is submitted to ISO Central Secretariat by the Committee Manager. It is then circulated to all ISO members who then have 12 weeks to vote and comment on it.
The DIS is approved if a two-thirds of the P-members of the TC/SC are in favor and not more than one-quarter of the total number of votes cast are negative
Draft standards for public comment
Standards at the enquiry stage are open for comments. You can find a list of standards that are currently at this stage. To comment on them, contact your national member.
Addressing comments
The DIS ballot will generate comments on the document that has been submitted. The working group in charge of the developpement of the standard will meet and answer to all the comments, making the corresponding changes in the draft standards. They can accept the comments or reject them, with justification.
If the DIS is approved and no technical changes are introduced in the draft, the project goes straight to publication. However, if technical changes are introduced, FDIS stage is mandatory.
