ISO/TC34/SC17 will have a very busy set of meetings in Lima, Peru during the week of October 28th, 2024.
SC17’s sessions will include a two-day meeting of WG11 to review the comments received during the DIS ballots on the ISO 22002 series of PRP standards. There will also be second meeting of WG8, over two days, to continue to advance the revision of ISO 22000:2018. The week will conclude with the SC17’s 14th Plenary meeting on November 1st.
SC17 is pleased to accept the invitation of Instituto Nacional de Calidad (the national standards body in Peru) to have these meetings in Lima. This will be second time that SC17 has held meetings in South America. WG8 met in Buenos Aires, Argentina in April 2016.
WG11:
The DIS ballots on the revision of the ISO 22002 Parts and the creation of the new common elements Part 100 were all successful in the voting that concluded in July 2024. The WG will consider each of the 7 Parts and the related comments. Part 3 of the ISO 22002 series which covers PRPs for Farming was not included in the work of WG11. A systematic review of Part 3 will commence in October 2024.
WG8
WG8 which held its first meeting virtually on the revision of ISO 22000:2018 in May 2024, will consider reports on the actions decided at that meeting:
- Create a presentation stating the pros and cons if ISO 22002 series should be mandatory;
- Create a draft definition for “externally developed elements”;
- Provide a proposal for merging subclauses 7.1.5 and 7.1.6;
- Update ISO/WD 22000, Annex A (in relation to the updated General Principles of Food Hygiene (Codex Committee on Food Hygiene);
- Develop a proposal on how to give better guidance on continual improvement;
- Create a draft Informative Annex giving guidance on validation of control measures as defined in ISO 22000:2018;
- Evaluate and align with Codex GPFH document on the term validation (subclause 8.5.3) where validation relates to the entire Hazard Control Plan;
- Develop a proposal on how to include Food Safety Culture; and
- Create a draft Informative Annex explaining more on OPRP and CCP as defined in ISO 22000:2018.
WG8 is also implementing the changes to align the next version of ISO 22000 with the new harmonized requirements from ISO concerning management system standards.
14th Plenary Meeting:
At this session, SC17 will review the reports from WG11 and WG8. It will consider further work on ISO 22005. It will also plan the review of the Strategic Plan for the coming years and consider reports from its Advisory Groups (AG1 – Expert Review, AG2 – Communications, AG3 – Codex activities and AG4 – the joint group with the IAF on audit practices). The subcommittee will also hear reports from those Liaison organizations in the room and review those submitted in writing. The biennial review of all SC17’s liaisons will be undertaken and a proposal for a new link with ISO/TC34/SC20 – Food Loss and Waste will be considered. The 15th Plenary will be held in Paris in November 2025.
