NEWS March 2026

We hope this update finds you well! Our March 4th, 2026, WG 8 meeting marked an important step in the ongoing revision of ISO 22000. Ahead of the meeting, an updated draft with action items was shared, and during our discussions, we reviewed and refined these items. The agreed-upon modifications will be incorporated into the draft and sent to ISO Central Secretariat for the public enquiry procedure (DIS).

Key Decisions from the Meeting
One significant outcome of the meeting was the decision to remove the annexes on food fraud and food defense from the draft. These annexes will instead be published on this website alongside other guidance documents once ISO 22000 is finalized. Hopefully this will give the users of ISO 22000 a better understanding of the system.

Next Steps for Experts

• When the DIS is circulated, you will receive it from your national standards body (NSB) along with a national deadline.
• Please provide your comments and preferred vote (yes, no, abstain) to your NSB contact.
• All comments should be entered into the ISO comments template.
• The Secretariat will notify experts when the DIS is officially launched.
• After the ballot closes, all comments will be compiled into a single document for discussion at our next WG 8 meeting in November 2026.

Work and Actions Before the Next Meeting
Taking ample time to review and comment on the DIS will be crucial for ensuring a smooth process.

Future Timeline

• November 2026: WG 8 in-person meeting in Buenos Aires to review DIS comments
  • We are looking forward to seeing you in person at our next WG 8 meeting:
    9–12 November 2026 – Buenos Aires, Argentina
    Registration is expected to open in May 2026.
• January 2027: Work on remaining action items to resolve outstanding DIS comments
• March 2027: WG 8 virtual meeting to discuss action items and finalize the FDIS
