Last week, representatives from SIS – Joakim Falk and Hanna Dumky – visited the Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS) to strengthen our ongoing twinning collaboration focused on standards for menstrual products.
What is “twinning”?
Twinning is a structured partnership in which two national standards bodies work together to build capacity, exchange knowledge, and jointly advance standardization efforts. In this case, the collaboration focuses on the development of standards for menstrual products – an area crucial to the health, safety, and dignity of girls and women worldwide.
The work takes place within the global committee for Menstrual Products, ISO/TC 338, which is led by SIS.
Highlights from the visit
The week began with a meeting hosted by Tanzania’s national committee for menstrual products, chaired by Dr. Innocent Macha together with Senior Standards Officers Suzan Ulomi and Alexander Mashalla.
Participants included experts from universities, industry, testing institutes, and two students. During the meeting, the group continued reviewing comments on the upcoming international standard being developed within ISO/TC 338.
Strengthening global collaboration
The exchange offered valuable insight into the national work underway in Tanzania and demonstrated how different stakeholders collaborate to advance the field. The experience further strengthens the shared ambition of supporting the development of high-quality global standards for menstrual products.
