The ISO/TC 338 Menstrual Products meeting week, May 12th – May 16th, has concluded its plenary meeting in Nairobi, Kenya, making significant progress on the first-ever global standards for menstrual products.
Key achievements during the week was below:
- Advanced framework for single and multiple-use product standards
- Enhanced safety provisions to limit harmful chemicals
- Focused on ensuring standards promote broader access to safe products worldwide
With approximately 300 million people menstruating daily, these standards address a critical gap in international best practices and our work will:
- Improve product safety
- Make reusable options more financially accessible
- Foster positive conversations about menstruation globally
- Improve the quality of life for menstruating persons by improved menstruation health and safety
- Initiate pathways for adoption in low- and middle-income countries, including identifying common challenges, engaging policymakers and regulators, and supporting SMEs—particularly for reusable product implementation.
