On 6-10 June, 2016, 110 experts from 29 ISO member bodies and 9 liaison organizations met in Mississauga, Canada, to progress with the work on developing ISO 45001.
The meeting was hosted jointly by the Standards Council of Canada (SCC), the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE), the CSA Group, and the national mirror committees to PC283 for the USA.
The meeting in Toronto was held in plenary and focused on some of the major and most difficult issues to resolve based on the 3000 comments and suggestions received on the DIS of ISO 45001.
While noting the disappointment of the failure of the DIS to be approved, all speakers emphasized the need for a standard such as ISO 45001, in order to reduce the number of injuries, illnesses and fatalities incurred by workers every year, before wishing PC 283 success with its meeting.
Given the number of comments, two meetings are needed. Moreover a separate task group was formed to prepare for the second meeting.
