In August 2020, ISO/TC 283 has established its Developing Countries Coordination Group (DCCG) with the convenorship from Department Standard of Malaysia. Chaired by Maimunah Khalid with Haslayati "Lala" binti Hashim as convener support.  The DCCG is intended to be a forum to encourage and support leadership development for TC 283 members from developing countries.

ISO/TC 283 DCCG is a platform for collaboration and participation by developing countries in the work of ISO/TC 283 by providing an additional opportunity for developing countries to influence standards being developed. It also aimed to support members from developing countries to participate actively and effectively in various working and task groups under ISO/TC 283. The Group believes that this will enhance regional cooperation, coordination of activities and explore twinning opportunities between developing and developed countries to enhance the standards development process, building capacity for valuable input from all countries.

The DCCG established an action plan as follows:

  1. Improve awareness of key stakeholders in developing countries of the role of standardization in economic growth, world trade and sustainable development;
  2. Build capacity of ISO TC283 member countries and their stakeholders involved in developing the standardization infrastructure and participating in international standardization work;
  3. Increase national and regional cooperation to share experience, resources, training information and communication technologies;
  4. Develop electronic communication and expertise in IT tools to participate in international standardization work, reach out to stakeholders and make efficient use of ISO e-services;
  5. Increase participation in governance and technical work of ISO to voice priorities, contribute and influence the technical content of ISO deliverables.

The first meeting will be on 9 October 2020.  ISO/TC 283 welcomes members from all developing countries to be member of the ISO/TC 283/DCCG. If you would like to be part of the ISO TC283 DCCG and help to facilitate development of OHS standards in your country, do contact your national standard body or national representative to TC283 to register for the group.
