ISO TC 258/WG13 is officially underway with Global Collaboration and Digital Firsts
Working Group 13 (WG13) of ISO/TC 258 has officially held its inaugural meeting, setting a clear direction for its work in Project, programme, and portfolio management - Requirements. With the appointment of WG Secretary, introduction to ISO’s Online Standards Development platform, agreement on ways of working, and drafting and development milestones, WG13 is leading the way in both governance and innovation.
The first meeting of Working Group 13 (WG13) under ISO/TC 258 was held successfully on 30 April 2025, marking a significant milestone in the committee’s efforts to advance project, programme, and portfolio management standards. The working group was established in March 2025 by TC 258 to undertake the development of an international standard for Project, programme and portfolio management – Requirements. The virtual inaugural meeting brought together global experts and member representatives to establish the groundwork for WG13’s pragmatic operation and priorities.
The meeting opened with a warm welcome from the appointed convenor Alexandra Tenera (IPQ, Portugal), followed by a roll call and self-introductions. Participants reaffirmed their commitment to ISO’s Code of Ethics and Conduct, ensuring a transparent and collaborative working environment. The agenda was formally adopted, including key operational and strategic items and addition of introduction to the ISO Online Standards Development (OSD) platform.
A key appointment followed: Christian Rudischer (ASI/Austria) was nominated without objection as the ISO TC 258/WG13 Secretary. His extensive experience and active participation in ISO processes were widely recognized, and his support will play a central role in coordinating TC 258/WG13’s ongoing activities.
A notable highlight of the meeting was recognizing that ISO TC 258/WG13’s was the first working group within ISO/TC 258 to use ISO’s new online standards development platform (OSD). The Committee Manager, Tzarmallah Joseph, introduced the platform, outlining its benefits and capabilities to streamline document writing, sharing, commenting, and real-time collaboration. Videos and resources were shared with participants including more detailed online training opportunities. Members expressed enthusiasm about this innovation, recognizing its potential to enhance efficiency, effectiveness and inclusivity in the drafting process. As a new initiative the team committed to maintaining a log of lessons learnt for sharing with other OSD users.
Members were also briefed by Rommert Stellingwerf, previous convenor of ISO TC 258 Ad Hoc Group 13 (ISO TC 258/AHG13) on relevant background materials and report of the AHG, providing essential context and references for WG13's technical drafting and development. This included prior inputs, terminology frameworks, and emerging focus areas. The group reviewed the results of NP 21514 ballot and comments related to the formation of WG13 and initiation of new work. These insights informed the discussion on refining the group’s ways of working and considerations for development.
The group also discussed and agreed upon proposed “way of working,” including communication methods, document sharing protocols, and a tentative meeting schedule. This ensures clarity and consistency as WG13 moves forward with its tasks.
The session concluded with a review of any other business, documentation of decisions taken, and an agreed actions list. Members acknowledged the constructive tone of the meeting and expressed a strong commitment to progressing the group’s work in a collaborative and efficient manner.
WG13’s inaugural meeting signals a forward-looking approach, not only in its subject matter but also in its methods. As the first TC 258 group to use the OSD platform, WG13 is helping shape through transformation, the future of digital standards development.
