CALL TO ACTION: With nearly 30% of TC 258 members classified as developing countries, the TDG has released a public version of its report on supporting developing countries and invites feedback from the project management community to guide future actions on the support needed to strengthen participation and implementation of ISO/TC 258 standards.
In September 2024, the ISO/TC 258 Technical Development Group (ISO/TC 258/TDG) delivered a report to ISO/TC 258 at its plenary session in Athens, Greece. The report outlined the support developing countries may need to implement the standards produced by ISO/TC 258.
The original report has been revised so it can be made publicly available outside the ISO/TC 258 membership. A copy of the revised report can be accessed here: ISO/TC 258 Resources Page.
As the ISO/TC 258/TDG report highlights, ISO has a dedicated committee, ISO Committee On Developing Country Matters (ISO/DEVCO), that supports developing countries. “DEVCO supports developing countries in standardization matters by identifying needs and recommending actions to help meet them, for example, through technical assistance and training.”

The ISO/TC 258/TDG report found that as of September 2024, approximately 30% of ISO/TC 258 members are classified as developing countries by ISO. This has implications for ISO/TC 258 as almost one-third of all its members are considered developing countries by ISO. The challenge is how can ISO/TC 258 best support its members from developing countries?
The ISO/TC 258/TDG is looking to gather information of what support project management communities in developing countries need to support both the development and implementation of ISO/TC 258 standards.
