During the period October 2023 to June 2024, the ISO/TC 258 Technical Development Group (ISO/TC 258/TDG) developed a report focused on the future impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on project management, a report which was shared with the membership of ISO/TC 258.

The report includes significant findings.
The primary benefit of AI in project delivery lies in its ability to process enormous quantities of data. By analysing past and current project data, AI can enable more effective decision-making around project delivery – better predicting the future performance of a project by considering all the variables. AI has become a significant tool for project professionals when delivering projects. A 2022 report, Artificial Intelligence in Project Management, led by the University of Southampton, UK, explored the general perception of AI and the ease of use of AI technology within projects.
The following key findings arose from the research:
· AI enhances decision-making in projects.
· AI supports problem-solving functions.
· AI is most likely to be used during project planning.
· AI improves efficiency when analysing large volumes of data in projects.
· AI has the potential to increase project success and mitigate project failure.
· AI technology reduces some of the unknowns in complex projects.
This document highlights several benefits of AI in project management, including productivity enhancements, predictive analytics, real-time reporting, enhanced risk management, resource optimisation, strategic insights, continuous learning and evolution, enhanced decision-making, automation of routine tasks, improved project planning and execution, continuous learning and improvement, advanced data analytics, and integration of external data sources.
These benefits can revolutionise project management by driving efficiency, strategic decision-making, and successful project outcomes.
