- ISO/TS 14033:2012, Environmental management -- Quantitative environmental information -- Guidelines and examples
ISO/TS 14033 is now 3 years old and went for Systematic Review ballot recently. The review of the standard is expected to be initiated in November 2015 by WG 4.
The Convenor of TC207/SC4/WG4 is Dr Raul Carlsson from Sweden.
Dr Raul Carlsson has over 20 years of experience and expertise in the wide field of data and information for quantitative environmental performance. His experience is rooted in practical work in industrial heavy vehicle production where he worked in the early 1990s. Since the mid 1990s he worked in academic and industrial research, as well as in consultancy, applying life cycle assessment as a competitive benefit in a broad range of large industries, developing and implementing tools for life cycle assessment, product design, environmental information management and decision making. Since 2014 he is a manager of the department on Industrial Efficiency & Sustainability at the Swedish industry and government-owned metal cast research institute Swerea SWECAST.
Raul Carlsson has participated in ISO/TC 207 since 1997, initially in SC5 – Life cycle assessment (LCA), with special interest for LCA data quality and data transparency. Since 2009 he is convener for the working group SC4/WG4 on Quantitative Environmental Information, ISO 14033. Dr Carlsson also represents Sweden as member of the ISO/TC207 CAG.
Dr. Raul Carlsson holds a master degree in engineering physics and a doctoral degree in environmental sciences from Chalmers University of Technology, Gothenburg, Sweden. His specialization is towards the fields of environmental sciences, data and informatics for industrial sustainable development. His doctoral thesis related to industrial environmental information management.
Many of the tools in the ISO 14000-series of standards are based on assessment, analyses and presentation of data. Dr Carlsson is concerned that the different users of these tools understand how to relevantly apply the general principles of transparency and scientific approach that are valid for the tools they use. In convening WG4 on Quantitative Environmental Information, Dr Carlsson hopes to ensure that reliable and transparent information is provided for making decisions on environmental management and sustainable development. This is equally true for decisions regarding physical aspects of environmental protection such as resource efficiency, toxicity or climate mitigation and adaptation, as well as for decisions regarding value aspects, like choices of environmental protection areas, target and priority setting or cost and benefit valuations.
