The role and purpose of the ISO/TS 14033 Environmental management -- Quantitative environmental information -- Guidelines and examples is to support all the standards in the ISO 14000-series that are based on quantitative environmental information. The standard provides guidance on how to define, acquire and compile quality data. It also gives guidance about how to achieve transparency to enable both the review and interpretation of data.
The current version of the ISO/TS 14033:2012 is the first version of this standard. The text of the standard will be reviewed and updated to ensure continued practical support to new and upcoming standards.
ISO/TS 14033:2012 is relevant for many standards, for example, for the ISO 14040 standards on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA); the ISO 14051 and ISO 14052 standards on Material Cost Accounting (MFCA); the ISO 14060-standards that address greenhouse gas quantification for organizations, projects and products; as well as for the labelling and declaration standards covered in the ISO 14020 series of standards; including the upcoming standard ISO 14034 on Environmental Technology Verification (ETV).
Many new standards and new versions of standards have been published since 2011 when the ISO/TS 14033:2012 standard text was finished. Therefore, the text of the standard needs to be reviewed and updated to ensure continued practical support to these new and upcoming standards, on, for example, the MFCA and ETV. In addition, since it was the first version of the standard, some of the examples in the annex of the standard may need to be updated.
The review work started during May and June 2016. Notes have been made in the document, about where to make changes, and some recommendations and additions have been proposed.
The WG is using the new effective ISO e-tool for meetings, for drafting, for commenting and updating the document. At the meetings in Seoul in August and September 2016, the WG secretary will demonstrate how to continue the work using this e-tool.
