News from the WG 17 and WG 20 meetings, Berlin, Germany, 2023-05-30

Yesterday there was two WG (Working Group) meetings and one JWG (Joint Working Group) meeting. WG17 “Vocabulary of terms and definitions”, WG20 “Design and documentation for manufacture, assembly, disassembly and end-of-life processing managed to meet in person and face to face at the Siemens-Energy plant in Berlin. JWG21 is the joint ISO/TC 10 - IEC/TC 3 working group that work on the ISO 81355 series standards. JWG21 also managed to meet in person and face to face at the Siemens-Energy plant in Berlin.

In WG17 the experts reviewed and discussed the ISO 10209:2022 standard, i.e. Technical product documentation — Vocabulary — Terms relating to technical drawings, product definition and related documentation. The discussions ended up in some recommendations to the ISO/TC 10 plenary meeting about the future of the standard and in what form and format it should have, i.e. should the standard only be found on the ISO on-line browsing platform. WG17 also reviewed and discussed the role of the maintenance team and the process to validate standards in regards to terms and definitions.

WG20 reviewed and discussed the current and on-going work with the two parts of the ISO 8887 series of standards. Hopefully soon the part three of the standard series will be developed. It is the ISO/AWI 8887-3 Technical product documentation — Design for manufacturing, assembling, disassembling and end-of-life processing — Part 3: Selection of an appropriate end-of-life design strategy.

JWG21 reviewed and discussed the current and on-going work with the ISO/IEC 81355 series of standards. One important question is how we should harmonize the work and align the current ISO 29845 Document Types standard into DCC (Document Classification Code) and later on into ICC (Information Classification Code). IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) has their database (DB) IEC 61355 - Collection of standardized and established document kinds, https://std.iec.ch/iec61355/iec61355.nsf/$enhome?OpenForm

Today WG19 are reviewing and discussing the work on the ISO 128 and 129 series of standards.
