Welcome to standardization on nuclear energy, nuclear technologies and radiological protection 

 

Nuclear energy is a form of energy released from the nucleus, the core of atoms, made up of protons and neutrons. The main application concerns the civil electricity production in power plants. 
The other applications are less well-known. Radiosotopes, nuclear power process heat and non-stationary power reactors have essential uses across multiple sectors, including consumer products, food agriculture, medicine and scientific research, transport and water ressources and the
environment

 

The purpose of ISO/TC 85 is to improve safety security and radiological protection for all nuclear activities, nuclear technologies and application of ionising radiation and to sustain the present globilisation of the markets with new international standards

 

Our scope

Standardization in the field of peaceful applications of nuclear energy, nuclear technologies and in the field of the protection of individuals and the environment against all sources of ionising radiations.

Concretely, ISO/TC 85 contributes to quality, efficiency, radiological protection and nuclear safety by producing international standards in the fields of

  • radiological protection
  • nuclear installations, processes and technologies
  • reactor technology

 

Our objective 

The objective of ISO/TC 85 the production of industrial is the production of industrial standards addressing the needs of nuclear energy, radiological protection, nuclear installations, process and technologies and  reactor technology, including:

  • measurement of radiation and activity of radioactive materials;
  • measurement or calculation of safety or performance-related parameters;
  • material specifications, including standard dimension interfaces;
  • system specifications;
  • operation and maintenance;
  • waste management;
  • decommissioning;
  • conformity assessment and quality management system certification;
  • knowledge management;
  • assessment of the safety culture and the leadership for safety.

 

ISO/TC 85 develops standards and tools, through its 2 working groups and its three subcommittees (SC).

More than 40 national standardization bodies take part in ISO/TC 85's activities, led by AFNOR (France). 

An active network with 20 international institutional, professional and research organisations has been developed.
