Alan Wood

At the TC 81 Plenary Meeting on 4th November 2025, a certificate was awarded to Alan Wood for his contributions to ISO 1750 in the more than 40 years he has served on the committee. For many years, the committee lacked a proper way to store its data so that it could be kept up-to-date and used to produce amendments and new editions. Starting in 2008, Alan donated data and images from the Compendium of Pesticide Common Names so that Amendments 4, 5, 6 and 7 could be published. In 2021, he donated a complete XML data set from the Compendium to replace the ISO 1750 data and images so that ISO could publish a second edition as a database standard. When ISO failed to provide a database, he taught himself a programming language so that he could write XSL stylesheets that allow customers to view the XML data and images in their web browsers. This allowed the second edition to be produced in 2023 as a very short printed and PDF document that provides customers with the link to the XML file. He also produced XSL stylesheets that display and validate the XML data while it is being checked and prepared by the Maintenance Agency.  Alan has also donated an XML data set to replace ISO 765 and merge its data into a third edition of ISO 1750, expected to be published in 2026.
