ISO/TC67 / WG16 is a new working group, established in January 2025, responsible for standardisation in the underwater operations domain, both for manned- and remote underwater operations. Primary focus is standardisation in the field of energy such as the oil & gas industry, including petrochemical and lower carbon energy activities. However, the standards will be open for use in all other ocean industries as well.
We welcome invitations to participate in, and/or opportunities to present the working group at relevant industry meetings, events, seminars and conferences. Please reach out to Øyvind or Cecilie.
The WG 16 expert members are representing nine National Standardisation Bodies (May 2026) from the following P-member countries: Canada, China, Germany, Japan, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, UK and USA.
Seeking further experience
Our focus is to expand the working group with a wider range of experts that could be interested in joining the working group and/or experts who wish to propose potential projects for international standardisation.
For manned underwater operations we welcome experts with backgrounds in commercial diving (surface oriented and saturation) and manned atmospheric diving systems (suits, subs and vehicles) including related tooling, utilities, design- and management systems.
Your background
In the field of remote underwater operations we welcome experts with backgrounds in autonomous-, hybrid- and remote operated vehicles including related tooling, utilities, design- and management systems.
Experts with a passion for standardisation and experience as regulators, physiologists and researchers, unions, diving contractors, equipment manufacturers, classification societies, navies, operators and licensees nominated by their National Standardisation Bodies are welcome to join the working group.
