Standardization accelerates value creation in the Oil and Gas Sector - Energy transition
This first ever standardization session at ONS was jointly organized by by ISO - International Organization for Standardization (ISO/TC67) and IOGP and Standard Norge (Standard Norway). The objective was to inform and promote unified standards to accelerate deployment and engage stakeholders in industry sector. This year ONS theme "Trust" was thus also highlighted by the session speeches and energetic panel Q&A discussion showing trust, needs and benefits in ongoing global stakeholders collaboration essential for enabling efficient energy transition. ISO/TC67 (Oil and gas industries including lower carbon energy) vision "International standards used locally worldwide" was also adressed towards the global industry stakeholders.
The organizing committee chaired by Runar Østebø, together with Per-Arne Røstadsand and Roar Heum had composed an agenda that included three parts:
• Part 1 - Management of standards development and use - Simplifying, minimising and harmonising
• Part 2 - Business potential of standards - Digitalization and cost management
• Part 3- Stakeholder panel session – Operators, Contractors, Standards Developers and Regulators
After the welcome address from Roar Heum (Standards Norway), Part 1 consisted of an opening speech from Phil Smedley (ISO/TC67) and keynote speeches from Adri Postem (IOGP JIP33) and Oddgeir Dalene (IOGP JIP33).
In Part 2, the following speeches were given: READI JIP by Paal Frode Larsen and Erik Østby + ISO 15663 standard by Endre Willmann.
The panel session topics in Part 3 focussed on the role of standardization with respect to a) Unified standards - by collaboration, b) Lower carbon (e.g. Offshore wind, CCS and Hydrogen) and c) Digitalization. Today's trilemma of energy supply in a lower carbon manner and in affordable way will rely on use of unified international standards - and this session provided support to accelerate this – and in which international collaboration is essential to succeed.These panelists highlighted their organizational role, and shared status and experienec with respect to how standards are part of this arena:

The ONS-ISO-IOGP standardization session was instrumental for sharing latest news to the ONS attendants for acceleratiing standards deployment, and session discussion and viewpoints provided useful input to ongoing ISO/TC67 and IOGP standardization arena for their further appopriate follow-up.
