ISO/FDIS 11618 Building construction -- Sealants -- Classification and requirements for pedestrian walkway sealants was out on ballot until the beginning of June, and the result is unanimous: 100% approval.
The project was registered by our SC 8 "Sealants" in April 2013, and was not expected to be finished until April 2016. However, thanks to the efficient and hard work of SC 8 and its WG 13, the standard is currently under publication, well ahead of schedule.
The standard applies to sealants used for pedestrian walkways, public areas, movement joints between concrete slabs, areas with pedestrian load, areas which are used with trolleys, parking garages, walkable floors, balconies, terraces, and warehouses.
Furthermore, the standard specifies the types and classes of elastic sealants used in building construction pedestrian walkways according to their performance characteristics. Sealants may be either non-sag or self-levelling as declared by the manufacturer. Areas of application are floor joints which have been designed.
SC 8 "Sealants" is chaired by Dr Andreas Wolf, and the secretariat is managed by the Standardization Administration of China (SAC). The Convenor of SC 8/WG 13 "Sealants for pedestrian walkways" is Mr Larry Carbary (USA).
