Environmental declarations in BIM - call for information on relevant experiences

At the 2016 plenary meeting of SC 17 "Sustainability in buildings and civil engineering works" in Berlin in October, it was decided to start a preliminary work item to make EPD data available in BIM (building information modelling).

An EPD, or Environmental Product Declaration, is a short document that sums up the environmental profile of a component, a finished product or a service in a standardised and objective way. The proposal was developed by experts from SC 17/WG 3 "Environmental declaration of products" under the leadership of Anne Ronning (Norway) and builds on experiences from a Nordic project with participants from Norway, Denmark and Iceland. As part of the Nordic project, an informational video, "Building the Bridge", was made to give some further explanation about BIM, EPDs and how EPDs can be integrated in BIM (see video below).

SC 17/WG 3 will initiate this work by arranging a workshop where projects and initiatives that have experiences with both EPD and BIM will be presented and discussed. The workshop will take place in Paris on 9 March 2017. The SC 17/WG 3 secretariat would greatly appreciate hearing from anyone who has relevant information about such projects or initiatives.
