The leadership of ISO/TC 59/SC 13 recently met with the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) and the Institution of Engineers, Singapore (IES) standards development organisation in Singapore to discuss digitalization in the global building and construction industry.
ISO/TC59/SC13 "Organization and digitization of information about buildings and civil engineering works, including building information modelling (BIM)" develops standards that support digitalization of information through the whole life cycle of buildings and infrastucture.
SC 13 must be able to identify the current ISO standardization needs, the gaps and the strategic approach which should be adopted to provide all the necessary supporting standardization.
Therefore, SC 13 must be able
- to monitor current and planned BIM-related activities worldwide;
- to provide guidance on appropriate responses of SC 13 to these above activities;
- to take into consideration the work of other Standards Bodies around the world;
- to facilitate transparent sharing of work programmes of Standards Bodies around the world to encourage convergence.
