SC 20 Resilience of Buildings and Civil Engineering Works Holds First Plenary Meeting

SC 20, Resilience of Buildings and Civil Engineering Works, established in 2023, successfully conducted its first plenary meeting in Yantai, China, on October 22nd.

The committee's scope focuses on the standardization of resilience in the design of the built environment to mitigate risks induced by hazards, both natural and man-made, as well as changing environmental conditions. The work of SC 20 specifically excludes:

— resilience of cities and communities (covered by ISO/TC 268 Sustainable cities and communities),
— emergency management (covered by ISO/TC 292 Security and resilience).

We encourage all standardization organizations to consider whether the work of SC 20 might be relevant for experts in their countries. SC 20 has published a brochure that provides a comprehensive overview of its ongoing work and outlines plans to build upon the standards previously developed under ISO TC 59/WG4.
