ISO 17034 outlines the general requirements for the production of reference materials (RMs). ISO/CASCO, ISO/REMCO previously developed this standard in 2016. It is currently being used, among others, as the key standard in reference material producer (RMP) accreditation.
In 2025, ISO/CASCO and ISO/TC 334, succeeding ISO/REMCO, agreed to initiate ISO 17034 to reflect recent demands for revision. For this task, ISO/CASCO and ISO/TC 334 established a joint working group, ISO/CASCO/JWG 43.
ISO 17034 is currently on the Committee Draft (CD) ballot stage.
